“Mom, can I see the Sakuras in Japan?”

Like literally, these photos were taken in my hometown, specifically Sandakan Sports Complex.
If my memory serves me right, when I went there with my family as part of a weekend outing, we were then greeted with this view of fallen flowers from the trees planted on the outdoor area of the complex, totally out of our expectations. Perhaps it’s just the right season, and we were lucky enough in terms of timing.
The photos here are admittedly pretty blurry, but it should still be pretty obvious that those were not Sakura (cherry blossoms) at all. However, they were pink flowers, so close enough, I suppose. Nonetheless, it’s still a spectacular sight to behold1.
Even until now, I still have no idea what species of those trees belong to, so if anyone reading this can enlighten me regarding this, I’d highly appreciate it.

Yes, before you get the wrong idea, I actually hold no ill will towards that! ↩︎
