https://www.ekamus.info/

Performing in Victoria Concert Hall for the first time

In August this year, I had the opportunity of performing for a wind band concert featuring various captivating music. It was my first time performing in Victoria Concert Hall, a famous concert venue in Singapore with a rich history and stunning architecture.

This was also my first time performing alongside Lee Jinjun, a wind band composer whose works I’ve listened to and — if my memory serves me right — performed in my school band since my secondary school years. I even got to experience first-hand a live performance of his new music in this concert!

Thank you to Raffles Winds for such an opportunity, and much thanks to Ting Feng, my former section mate in a university wind band, for inviting me to guest play with them!

then vs. now (Esplanade)

Then: watching a concert at Esplanade.

Now: performing in a concert at Esplanade.

Thank you to Mus’Art Youth Wind Orchestra for giving me this opportunity to make wonderful music with them for the audience of all ages.

Also much thanks to Desmond, one of the clarinet players, for gifting the percussion section such lovely boxes of chocolate in celebration of Halloween!

2025-10-17 update: The recordings of the concert performance are out on YouTube! Do have a listen here!

How I made the homepage here a feed of all posts in full text

After installing the hugo-bearblog theme, I overwrote the index.html file in the theme layout by creating a new index.html file in the layouts folder of my main Hugo site directory that contains the following code, which is adapted from single.html from the layouts/_default folder from the original theme repository.

{{ define "main" }}
{{ $posts := where .Site.RegularPages "Section" "blog" }}
{{ range $posts }}
{{ if eq .Type "blog" }}{{ if not .Params.menu }}
<h1><a href="{{ .RelPermalink }}">{{ .LinkTitle }}</a></h1>
<p>
  <i>
    <time datetime='{{ .Date.Format "2006-01-02" }}'>
      {{ .Date.Format (default "02 Jan, 2006" .Site.Params.dateFormat) }}
    </time>
  </i>
</p>
{{ end }}{{ end }}
<content>
  {{ .Content }}
</content>
<p>
  {{ range (.GetTerms "tags") }}
  <a href="{{ .Permalink }}">#{{ .LinkTitle }}</a>
  {{ end }}
</p>
 <br>
 <hr class="solid">
 <br>
{{ end }}
{{ end }}

Some modifications on the CSS were also made to create the solid divider lines.

A side effect of this implementation is that all post images must be placed in the static folder1, which may increase site loading time. To mitigate this, I may need to paginate this feed. Will update on this in a future post, if possible.

2025-10-15 update: I have done the pagination. See this update post for more info.

  1. 2025-10-13 update: Actually the images can also be put in the same directory as the Markdown files of the posts (i.e. blog), but when including the images, the absolute path of the files may need to be specified. ↩︎

Algorithms are breaking how we think

https://hugo.md/post/freedom-of-the-last-minute/

The padding XDDD

The ending theme of (the pilot episode of) the indie animation series The Art of Murder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBaNOjORAWs&t=1154s

The lyrics of this entire chorus, right until the last sentence, does not have any substantial meaning at all, which is a great way of building anticipation and crafting the character’s personality.

The meme potential of replacing the last sentence with literally anything else is just so funny to me. Not to mention this song is so catchy that even literally months after watching this pilot episode, I can still sing the chorus out of nowhere sometimes XD.

By the way, The Art of Murder is yet another brilliant addition to the indie animation scene, do watch and support the show!
